Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Previous editions: Hazenbos 2003: 62-65.

The tablet represents a parallel version of the inventory VS.NF 12.111, written at an earlier stage of the inquiry. For the analysis of the relationship between the two fragments see the commentary on VS.NF 12.111. The preserved part of the first column treats the cults of the town Annitešša (cf. VS.NF 12.111 §§10′-12′, rev. 7-16), whereas the partially preserved colophon mentions the town of Duirra, which is treated in VS.NF 12.111 §§13′-14′ (rev. 17-24). Van den Hout 1990b: 429 considers KUB 57.97 to be “closely related” to KBo 13.236, but the similarity consists only in the fact that both fragments treat a divine spring names Kuwannaniya. This name, however, is a common name of Hittite springs.

Palaeography and orthography: Late QA (i 13). Note the variance in the spelling of the name of mount Ku(wa)nnaniya in lines i 5 (Kunnaniya) and 8 (Kuwananiya).

i 6: Cf. the formulation in the parallel text VS.NF 12.111, e.g. obv. 17′.

i 12: Cf. VS.NF 12.111 rev. 11, with a variant (there one ḫuppar-vessel, here two vessels of beer).

i 17: Cf. VS.NF 12.111 rev. 12.

iv 2′: Cf. VS.NF 12.111 rev. 17.
